The road going GT4 won't get the old 3.8 after all.

That’s rather surprising. I wonder what engine will be used now.

A detuned 4 liter GT3 engine makes no sense to me. It will be interesting to see if it gets the 3 liter biturbo flat six. That would be awesome.

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

Edit: C.J. Wilson, who is seen thrashing the GT4 Clubsport in Porsche’s press release video, said all GT4's will be naturally aspirated.  So much for the 3 liter biturbo theory (much less the ridiculous notion that the GT4 would have a flat-4.)

It will be the perfect way for Porsche to say that they are committed to sandbagging the Cayman.

I’ve got a feeling it’s going to get a de-bored 9A1, down to 3.4 from 3.8. Porsche has been very happy with 9A1 reliability. Dropping it down to a 3.4 would make it easy to crank the redline up without increasing costs as well.

You mean besides that unforgivably bad on center steering? And only shipping manual seats to dealers without customer orders?

They’d de-stroke it if they’re looking for revs

Yes, but I was being lazy and assumed people understood that was implied.

Also they would have to de-bore over de-stroke on the 9A1. Otherwise they’d end up with a 9k redline and about 90 ft/lbs of torque.

Fuck that.

997.2 C4GTS driveline. The whole thing.

We both know that’s not happening. Would it even fit?

Ooh can you elaborate?

On which part?

The feedback of the Cayman GTS when on-center is just... it’s non-existent. For about the first 15 or 30 degrees of total sweep, depending on what the car decides.

As for the manual seats thing: I looked at no less than a half dozen non-ordered Cayman GTSes. That is ones the dealers got that Porsche had spec’d for them. Every single one had the fully manual seats. PDK and 6 speed alike. If it was a GTS and it wasn’t one the dealer or a customer had spec’d, it had the base manual seats . Not the fancy manual seats. The base  ones.

Weird. I didn’t know if it was some known shit they pulled, but it sure seems like it, the seats that is.

Steering though, I guess I don’t get that in my S. I’m always pretty amazed how little I need to turn the wheel to enact a responsive motion. I have felt better though.

Are you talking about 718 models? Might they have changed?

Oh, yeah, it absolutely would fit with room to spare. Don’t know if there’s enough for the front driveshaft necessarily, but the front diff would only require non-structural floorpan. Even at maximum the front doesn’t get a lot of power, so it’s a very small diff.

The engine and transmission themselves have already been in the Cayman. 981 . MA1 = 9A1. The GT4's basically got a  997 transmission coupled to a 997.2 C2S 9A1. All the MA1.xx DFI blocks are 9A1 family.

Talking about 982's, specifically ‘17-18s.

I’m positive it HAS to be, because there’s no other possible explanation for every GTS having manuals while the S trims had the 14-way or 18-way. Nobody would select base manual seats on a GTS, especially with how damn hard it is to get in and out of. Either they’d order the CF body manuals or power memory.

And the S is a totally different beast compared to the GTS, especially when driven hard. The gap between the two is larger than Carrera S to GTS (not that Porsche has helped the 911 any of late.) I wasn’t displeased with the on-center feel of the S. But the GTS, it was clearly past the limits of the electrical pump design. It went super-vague especially under sharp changes. Pressure rise was just too slow or total pressure just too low. It was fine when you got feedback, but it didn’t want to give feedback.
